Child Care Institutions

Creative Workshops at Child Care Institutions with Department of Juvenile Welfare and Correctional Services Organised by Ketham’s Atelier Architects and Thinking Hand NGO Supported by (TASL) Tata Advanced System Limited & (TISS) Tata Institute of Social Sciences

As the success of workshop and exhibition titled ‘re-engaging a lost human connection’ dusks over memory lane, the dawn of new ambitions arrive. We pursued new journey of service to Child Care Institutions of Hyderabad

TISS (TATA Institute of Social Sciences) has invited Ketham’s Atelier Architects and Thinking Hand NGO to improve and enhance the existing infrastructure through design, thus creating child friendly environment and also conduct workshops to empower children in these Child Care Institutions. After the initial visit to these institutions, our team is quick to jump into action phase where we have planned activities in Girls Home and Children’s Home for Boys

Accordingly ‘Creative Workshops’ have been scheduled on 09th & 10th of February 2019 for Girls and Boys respectively. About 100 children shall be participating in this workshop from both the homes. A special exhibition of children’s work for public view will be held on 14th February 2019.

Ketham’s Atelier Architects and Thinking Hand NGO in collaboration with the Field Action Project Team of TISS have attempted this workshop to engage and introduce the children to different creative art forms and how they could be performed with little training but could excel and flourish when given heaps of support.The isolation and loneliness can be dangerous to the growth of child mentally and socially. The trauma they might have gone through before coming to these institutions is unimaginable. Hence we are using art as an approach to expression recreation and therapeutic interventions.

By indulging them in one of the various creative activities we can inculcate happiness and fun in their lives while bringing out innovative talents hidden in them. Children will be trained to create innovative ‘Curve-X’ furniture which can take weight of 200 kg made out of waste materials of cardboard that is useful not only for seating but also to store materials. Other activities include painting/portrait sketching, origami/ paper-craft, pot painting with planting tree, collage with newspaper and story writing with sketches.
